Rotterdam -
An example of a roadside monument, mostly placed alongside roads to memorize victims of traffic incidents. The ritual often memorizes acts of ‘zinloos geweld’ (senseless violence) as well. In this picture it is placed on an artificial green grass stripe. The flowers seem to be real.
Although the memorial is a few meters from the OK sign (see OK post), I am not sure about the relation between this spot and the boys on the pictures. The boy on the black and white picture has been murdered by a ‘lost bullet’ near a metro station in the Southern part of Rotterdam, I think 5 years ago. The text beneath his picture is written in the ‘I-form’, as a letter written by a ghost. I don’t know who is the rapper-boy on the left image.
