Rotterdam -
The Tarwewijk from the Art Hotel where I checked in for two days. In old days the men of the Tarwewijk worked in the harbour, which you see here on the right. Lino Hellings 31th of October 2010
Rotterdam is proud of its skyline. Highrise flatbuildings in post modern shapes on islands connected to the city centre by the Erasmus bridge . This bridge looking like a swan, is the heart of Rotterdam as far as I am concerned. It crosses the big river de Maas. Tall ships transport material from overseas into the European hinterland. To be on the 12th floor in this hotel is THE way to experience the city. The hotel is special as well. It is a Best Western hotel for 50 % and for the other half it rents out temporay appartments for people in need for between 3 month and half a year. The city of Rotterdam subsidised part of the rent for people who cannot afford it. It recently stopped doing that. The rule is that you can only have a compensation if you have a house with a long term contract.
